What are the issues about converting from Forms6i?
- The Forms execute on a different platform to the desktop, so any part of the form that access the desktop will need to be changed in some way. For example, a host call in Forms6i would access the local drives of the PC, now it accesses the drives of the Application Server platform (which might even be a different operating system e.g. Linux)
- Report calls will need to be changed to access the Report Server
- Use of ActiveX components is no longer allowed
- OLE integration needs to be changed to utilise webutul
- Some older built-ins are now made obsolete
- If you move to a Linux/UNIX application server, the upper/lowcase issue might become a problem, whereas under Forms 6i client Windows it made no difference.
