If you a currently on Forms4.5 or 5 client/server then this is very similar to the Forms 6i migration, though there are not the same complexities as the earlier versions of Forms did not have the ability to integrate into the desktop quite so well or so deeply.
What are the issues about converting from Forms 4.5 /5.0 GUI?
- The Forms execute on a different platform to the desktop, so any part of the form that access the desktop will need to be changed in some way. For example, a host call in Forms4.5 would access the local drives of the PC, now it accesses the drives of the Application Server platform (which might even be a different operating system e.g. Linux)
- Report calls will need to be changed to access the Report Server
- Some older built-ins are now made obsolete
- If you move to a Linux/UNIX application server, the upper/lowcase issue might become a problem, whereas under Forms 6i client Windows it made no difference.
